Hi, I'm Orielan. The idea for Catching Wellness occurred to me about a decade ago when I was trying to figure out how I wanted to spend my working hours. At that time I imagined it would be a brick-and-mortar establishment, but that was before I had kids. Nowadays I want to share my passion for wellness and a holistic approach to health while getting to spend as much time caring for my family as I can, so Catching Wellness is primarily online.
I've always been passionate about fitness and health. My mom taught me about tofu and whole grains and the dangers of sugar when I was a little kid. It just didn't occur to me when I was going off to college that a person could really DO something like health coaching as a career. So, instead I followed another path I care very much about and studied environmental science. Little did I realize that being in nature for work would actually nurture my health, holistically speaking. I loved being outside, hanging out with the plants and animals in the wetlands. However, as I moved up the ladder in that field I stopped spending time in nature and got stuck in a cubicle. That's when I found the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I trained there to be a holistic health coach, graduating in 2006, just before my first child was born. My life changed forever.
As a health coach I empower people to take charge of their well-being naturally. I teach people to look inward when trying to figure out what's right for them and their families, and then help them sort through the incredible amount of information that's available to find the solutions they're seeking. Lately I've been continuing my education, learning about natural remedies for common ailments. I love learning about something old that's new again and sharing what I've learned with anyone and everyone who'll listen. Herbal remedies and essential oils are powerful and important means to support the body, mind and spirit, and I'll be visiting those topics a lot at Catching Wellness.
Another powerful and important tool that I use to help people heal and catch their wellness is Reiki. Reiki is an accessible form of energy work that actually, measurably, triggers the body's relaxation response. It can provide feelings of deep relaxation and stress release. This is integral to the holistic health model! Though I have done energy work to some extent my whole life, my Reiki journey began in January 2011. Now I am a Reiki Master and teach others to use this beautiful modality. You can learn more about Reiki, and energy work in general, on the Reiki page.
Oh, and by the way, Orielan really is the name my parents gave me. It's pronounced o-REE-lin. Don't worry, I'll walk you through it!
